From my yearlong experience I have tried my best to develop 10 simple tips that is enough (according to me) to improve search engine optimization performance.
1) Content is the king so it must poses special attention. It should be reader friendly (means easy to understood) yet keyword reach.
2) Submit your blog in directories (web directory and blog directory) and search engines.
3) Comment on other do-follow blog which falls in the same niche as yours to improve backlink credibility. To improve backlink count you can also take part in do-follow forum threads, submit article in article directories, periodically publish Guest Post in other blog which falls in your niche.
4) Use keyword analysis tool and utilize the result effectively on Anchor text (url linker text) to improve search engine ranking position (SERP).
5) Submit SiteMap in search engines (Google).
6) Submit RSS feed in feed submission directory.
7) Perfectly place robots.txt in root directory of your server.
8) Speed up you blog by following some simple tips like putting third party script like CSS, Java script at extrenal file (folder) etc.
9) Don't forget to optimize image (photo, LOGO of the blog etc) for search engine.
10) Meta tags (Meta description, Title tags etc) should be unique for each page with targeted keywords.
