How to improve internal linking (link building) in your blog
1) Give Value to Site Navigation
Divide your main category into several sub section like- How to, Technology, Blog tips, Money Maker etc or which is suitable to you and post link to them from side or header navigation bar.
2) Use Sitemap
I'm not talking about XML sitemap which is required to submit in search engine in order to improve indexing rather general sitemap (HTML) in which you have to add list of general links to all (or most popular) blog post.
It not only help visitors to find what they’re searching for easily, but also improve the amount of internal links.
3) Show Related Post
Don't let your old post goes waste, makes them active and workable, embeds related links to your valuable old post which is similar in topic just below each of your post.
This pratice will not improve internal linking but also help readers to find additional content that may interest them.
4) Give importance to Popular Post, Recent Post or Featured Post and if Possible include Archive Section as well as Label Cloud
Providing links to your Popular Post, Recent Post or Featured Post at sidebar is one of the most used practice among bloggers to improve internal link strength. It's also recommended to use Archive Section and Label Cloud to inspire reader to keep staying in your blog more time while increasing internal link.
5) Write Series of Post
Do you have very long engaging blog post?
If yes, you should break it into series of post where each post will have link back to rest of the series.
i) Divide your very long post into several section of post
ii) Post one by one, where posts will be linked to each other
It's true, this is one of the easiest way to builld up internal linking. But don't be too excited, overwhelming use of this tactic make your reader feels you are doing this for the sake of improving page views which may decrease your credibility.
6) Use Links throughout Blog Post
Don't ever miss the opportunity to link back to your previously published post from your present post whenever you found a text that somehow related to your older post. In this regard you can also go through your old post periodically to find linking opportunities to relatively recent post which was not present at the time of publish of that old blog post.
While peforming this task keep in mind you should always use the perfect anchor tag (the linking text) to gain maximum benefit from search engine.
Some people says it's better to use links to old post from first few paragraphs because it improve click through ratio from RSS reader.
7) Publish Monthly Summary
It's gaining popularity among bloggers day & night, and it should be. It's really a great way to add some quality internal links while helping readers to go through those of your finest creation they have missed.
It will be better if you add brief description below each link to make it more professional.
Example : Click on the link "Top posts of takeme2yourheart.com for the month February '2010" to know my monthly summary for the month february.
8) Include Links to Posts & Pages at Footer Section
I noticed most of blog don't utilize it's footer section in its full potential and thus turns it into a wasted space. Why? If you use it in most effective way your internal linking count will improve several fold.
Lots of targeted reader who go through your post till the bottom of your blog and visitors who scrolled all the way down will check the footer section for relevant links rather scrolling back to the top. So why not provide these visitors links to other important post or pages?
9) Add 'Frequently Asked Question (FAQ)' Section
Be a helping hand in your niche, try to build a FAQ section where you should cover all those questions your reader may ask you and link them to answer page i.e. different blog post where you discussed answer of respective question.
It not only improve quality internal link but also improve your credibility in your niche.
10) Create Separate Page for Highly Discussed Topic
Do you discuss on number of topic in your blog? Then why not create separate page for those topic where you have showed link to those post on that topic you have already published.
Example:
If you have written several top quality post on a particular topic (like twitter etc) then you should build a separate page on it and post link to those post on twitter, now at your sidebar post a link to this page. It's really helpful.

12) Do you have written an ebook which is free to download? If yes, then you should build a page for this ebook where you have briefly described about that ebook. It not only help interested peoples to learn about the ebook before downloading it but also improve internal link.
13) We blog for money then why not create an page on advertisement and post a link to it with anchor text 'Advertise Here' from footer or sidebar or header which you prefer to build internl link while helping your advertiser to know advertising procedure and rate.
14) Now a dyas huge number of bloggers always look for Guest Post opportunity, if you publish Guest Post in your blog you should obvioulsy post a link to a page where you discuss what is Guest Post, importance of Guest Post and how you accept Guest Post.
15) Do you have the capacity to provide answer of tricky question in your niche your reader may ask?
If you really can solve their problem then you should obviously build a separate page on 'Ask Question' where they can ask question to you and link to this page from your blog sidebar, footer or header.
Note:
While building internal link always try to use targeted keywords and key phrases in anchor text peoples generally use at search engine to find information, as it may somehow get you more traffic from search engine.
